Sombrero Beach is one of Marathon’s most beautiful and popular waterfront parks. Located at the end of Sombrero Beach Road, this sandy beach along the Atlantic Ocean offers a wonderful place for residents and visitors to swim, relax, picnic, and enjoy the Florida Keys.

The park was redeveloped in 2001 with accessibility in mind and features a variety of amenities, including picnic pavilions, playground areas, volleyball courts, restrooms, outdoor showers, and shaded areas throughout the park.

Sea Turtle Nesting

Sombrero Beach is also an important sea turtle nesting beach. From April through October, Loggerhead Sea Turtles and other species may come ashore at night to lay their eggs.

During active nesting season, certain areas surrounding established nests may be temporarily protected or restricted. These nesting areas typically occupy only a small portion of the beach, allowing the remainder of the beach to stay open for residents and visitors to enjoy.

The beach is regularly surveyed during nesting season for new sea turtle activity. Trained and state-certified volunteers assist with early-morning surveys to identify and monitor nests and help protect Marathon’s sea turtle population.

Hours & Location

Beach Hours: Monday through Sunday, 7:00 a.m. to dusk.

Directions: Turn south onto Sombrero Beach Road and continue to the end of the road. Sombrero Beach will be directly ahead.

Parking Fees: $6 per hour for the first two hours and $2.50 per hour thereafter. (No overnight parking is allowed and trailers will be towed.)

Please Note: There are no designated RV or bus parking spaces available at Sombrero Beach.
