Marina Technician

Salary: $23.92-$35.88 per hour
Description: Operation of pump out vessel, cleaning restrooms, maintenance and repair of all buildings, and operational and safety tasks in and around City port/harbor facilities and uplands.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides for the physical and operational maintenance of the Marina and equipment and its facilities. Is a team member responsible for the upkeep and cleanliness of the grounds, restroom/toilet facilities, main building, City owned boats, moorings and dock areas.
- Keeps main building, bath house and shop areas clean and orderly. Inventories and maintains all marina tools, equipment, electric cart and boats with equipment.
- Is responsible for helping to maintain the provisions of the Clean Marina Program with all recycling activities, clean practices, and readiness for emergencies.
- Inspects the entire facility and grounds a minimum of once daily making note of safety problems, hazards, cleanliness needs, maintenance, and mechanical problems. Corrects or recommends for correction any items noted needing moderate to heavy maintenance.
- Operates the pump out boats in a safe manner and maintains records of activities associated with the service. Maintains pump out operation equipment, including pump out vessels. Prepares orders for the Ports Director to order parts and ensures redundant wear replacement items are kept stocked at all times.
- Empties refuse containers, checks recycle centers for pickup, and ensures grounds are watered, mowed and trimmed. All invasive exotic vegetation is monitored and eradicated upon detection.
- Assists in the proper docking and securing of vessels during docking and departing vessels in the marina.
- Conducts periodic service and oil changes to outboards and pump motors and related equipment.
- Exercises idle machinery on a preventative maintenance program, i.e., main generator, pressure washer, chainsaw and power tools to keep them in a ready mode at all times.
- Meets and greets all marina and mooring customers in a positive, friendly, and helpful manner. Strives to promote positive public relations and proper municipal perspective among customers, contractors, and other marinas.
- Educates and informs the boaters of regulations/policies concerning compliance and inspects vessel for problem areas.
- Operates the VHF radio with proper protocol and FCC base station license procedures. Relays urgent and emergency communications between boats using services of the harbor and marina.
- Strives to promote positive public relations and proper municipal perspective among customers, contractors, and other marinas.
- Educates and informs the boaters of regulations/policies concerning compliance and inspects vessel for problem areas.

Checks constantly for adjustments, wear signs, leaks or structural fatigue in pump out machinery.
Non-Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assists the marina team with any special events and programs affecting the marina.
- Is cognizant of all information in the Panic Preventer Manual and helps any emergency that may occur at the marina.
- Assists at the customer service desk and on the cash register as needed.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Ability to perform general building maintenance and vessel maintenance required. Operation of powerboat experience required.
Knowledge of the standard practices and methods and skill in the use of tools and materials of the electrical, plumbing and carpentry trades as applied to building and facility maintenance and repair tasks; knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of building and facility maintenance. Have the experience and/or the ability to become certified to operate all harbor equipment within six months of date of hire.
Learn and perform the safe operation of the marine vessel lifting devices and to safely transport boats between uplands and water; learn and perform safe boat operations and procedures; assist in search and rescue operations as directed by the Ports Director or his Assistant; assist the Ports Director and/or Assistant in the event of a distress call, environmental or weather emergency, or other crisis involving the operations of the city or harbor; work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions; exhibit a high degree of skill in the use and care of tools, equipment and materials used to perform the work.
Possession of a valid Florida driver's license.
