Summary: This full time position is responsible for performing skilled work in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining City wastewater treatment plants and collection systems, drainage system and other City facilities using a variety of programmers, tools, electrical test equipment and specialized tools. Mechanical, electronic, electrical and controls experience is preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs advanced technical repairs and troubleshooting on City electrical, instrumentation, and automation equipment, which may include but not be limited to PLC components, electrical control panels, motor control centers, various instrumentation, various pumps and other mechanical equipment, automatic valves, computer integrated instrumentation, and all other related wastewater equipment including grinder pump stations and associated equipment.
Able to perform predictive, preventative maintenance, trouble shooting and other related tasks in the upkeep of City facilities and/or equipment. The ability to make inspections of equipment, buildings and collection system facilities in order to identify repairs and/or required maintenance actions. Fill out requisitions for materials needed for repairs and maintenance. Complete reports of all such activities in electronic format.
Wastewater treatment plant operator trainee duties include but are not limited to:
- Ability to learn to maintain wastewater plants and equipment in accordance with the FDEP Permit and regulations and obtain certification within one year.
- Make sound and calculated adjustments to the wastewater plant or equipment to maintain proper influent and effluent processing.
- Perform process control testing in accordance with FDEP SOPs and the Federal Register Rules and Regulations to maintain proper nutrient levels, disinfection, and chemical balance within the wastewater treatment plant.
- Make sound and calculated adjustments to the chemical feed system based on the process control results.
- Record and evaluate elapsed time meters and flows of equipment and instruments to ensure proper operation of pumps, motors, meters, blowers, and all auxiliary equipment
- Interrupt chart recorder measurements to ensure proper vacuum Hg, turbidity, residual chlorine, and GPM flow levels, and make any necessary adjustments accordingly.
- Inspect and ensure a safe work environment at the wastewater facility, including the use of PPE, chemical, fuel and oil containment, walkways, lab equipment, and all other potentially hazardous conditions.
- Monitor the wastewater plant or equipment using the computer control system, Wonderware and Scada.
- Must be able to respond to emergencies on an as needed basis.
Other related duties as may be assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred. Advanced trouble shooting skills and advanced technical troubleshooting and repairs on City electrical, instrumentation, and automation equipment, which may include but not be limited to PLC components, electrical control panels, motor control centers, various instrumentation, various pumps and other mechanical equipment, automatic valves, computer integrated instrumentation, and all other related wastewater equipment including grinder pump stations, vacuum pump stations, and all associated equipment. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License required.
